Russia, Egypt agree to expand counter-terrorism cooperation – Foreign Ministry

Moscow, June 18 (RIA Novosti/GNA) – Russia and Egypt have agreed to expand cooperation in the fight against international terrorism and other security challenges, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

“The Russian Federation and the Arab Republic of Egypt reached an agreement on further expanding interaction in the field of combating international terrorism and other security challenges in a bilateral format and on key international platforms,” the ministry said in a statement following a meeting of the Russian-Egyptian working group on countering terrorism.

Moscow and Cairo have also exchanged views on global and regional terrorist threats, in particular, in Afghanistan, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa, as well as national expertise in counter-terrorism efforts, the statement added.

“In addition, the meeting discussed a wide range of current issues and projects of international cooperation in countering terrorism and extremism, including the use of the latest technologies. The challenge concerning financing terrorism was also emphasized,” the ministry added.

Moscow hosted on Thursday the fifth meeting of the Russian-Egyptian working group on countering terrorism with the participation of representatives of the competent agencies of both countries and co-chaired by the Russian and Egyptian foreign ministries.
