Tarkwa (W/R), June 11, GNA – The Western Central Regional Police Command has restored calm at Benso following a disturbance that resulted in an assault, property damage, and the discharge of firearms.
According to a press statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Central Region, the Benso Police received a report on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at about 8:20 p.m. that a 22-year-old man, Prosper Kwame Eshun, had been assaulted by some forestry officers at their bungalow.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had earlier parked his motorcycle at the entrance of the forestry workers’ bungalow and had gone to buy something from a nearby lane.
The statement said that upon his return, he noticed that the position of his motorcycle had been altered and suspected that it had been tampered with.
An attempt to seek clarification from the forestry officers present at the premises reportedly led to a confrontation, which subsequently escalated into a physical altercation.
During the disturbance, another individual, George Adu, 43, sustained gunshot wounds, the statement added.
The police said the situation had since been brought under control and that both victims were receiving medical attention.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
