Nkwanta South emerges overall best team at Inter-District sports festival in Jasikan

Dambai (O/R), June 30, GNA– Nkwanta South Municipality has emerged the Overall Best Team at the just-ended Inter-District Sports Festival held at Jasikan in the Oti Region. 

The municipality’s athletes delivered outstanding performances throughout the competition, winning several honours and bringing pride to their schools and communities. 

The team secured the coveted titles of Overall Best Girls Athletes and Overall Best Boys Athletes, further demonstrating its dominance in school sports. 

In the handball events, the girls’ team emerged champions, while the boys’ team placed second, adding to the municipality’s medal haul. 

The crowning moment of the festival was the capture of the Ultimate Trophy, making Nkwanta South the Overall Best Team for the second consecutive year. 

The achievement underscores the municipality’s commitment to nurturing sporting talents and promoting youth development. 

Mr Joseph Antwi Awal, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), speaking after the victory, commended the athletes for their discipline, resilience, and determination. 

He noted that the success was the result of months of rigorous training and the collective efforts of coaches, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders. 

He also described the achievement as a reflection of unity and inclusiveness within the municipality. 

Students and teachers from various ethnic groups, including Akyode, Challa, Adele, and Konkomba, trained and competed together as one team, contributing to the success chalked. 

Mr Awal said the triumph demonstrated that diversity could be harnessed to achieve a common goal. 

In recognition of the feat, the Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South, Mr Geoffrey Kini, has pledged GH¢5,000 as a reward to the athletes and officials. 

The gesture is expected to motivate the athletes and encourage more young people in the municipality to embrace sports. 

The victory has once again positioned Nkwanta South as a leading force in sports development in the Oti Region.
