NDC, Foundation to honour Rawlings  

Accra, June 19, GNA – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the J.J. Rawlings Foundation will commemorate the 79th birthday of former President Jerry John Rawlings on Monday, June 22, 2026.  

The commemoration, which will be held on the theme “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy,” will feature two major events in Accra.  

A statement signed by Mr Godwin Ako Gunn, Deputy National Communication Officer of the NDC, said the first event would be the naming of the party headquarters after Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings and the unveiling of his bust at 0900 hours.   

He said the ceremony would be addressed by President John Dramani Mahama and other leading members of the party.  

The statement said the second event would be a lecture and exhibition at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences near the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research in Accra.   

It said the keynote speaker would be Ghanaian academic and lawyer, Mr Tsatsu Tsikata.  

The statement said that other speakers would include Dr Akwasi Opong Fosu, former Minister for Local Government and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, and Mr Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for Information and National Security.  

It said members of the public, party supporters and cadres had been invited to participate in the commemorative activities to celebrate the birthday and honour the legacy of the NDC’s founder.
