Accra, June 5, GNA – The National Media Commission (NMC) has appointed Dr Isaac Okpoti Nai, a corporate governance specialist, as the new Managing Director of the New Times Corporation (NTC), publishers of the Ghanaian Times and Spectator newspapers.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was made in accordance with Article 168 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 2(1)(e) of the National Media Commission Act, 1994 (Act 449), which mandate the Commission to appoint chief executives of state-owned media organisations, and in consultation with President John Dramani Mahama.
This was announced in a statement signed by Mr George Sarpong, the Executive Secretary of the NMC, copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday.
Dr Nai is an accomplished management executive, academic and corporate governance specialist with more than 25 years of professional experience in financial management, strategic planning, internal audit, risk management and organisational development in Ghana and the United Kingdom.
Before his appointment, he served as General Manager in charge of Finance and Administration at the State Housing Company Limited.
He also previously held the positions of Executive Secretary of the National Housing Loans Scheme and Interim Managing Director of the State Housing Company.
Over the course of his career, Dr Nai has occupied senior management and governance positions with the Ghana Integrity Initiative, the local chapter of Transparency International, the Central Region Development Commission, the London Borough of Lewisham, the London Borough of Merton and Ananemantey & Co.
His professional experience spans donor-funded organisations, local government authorities, financial institutions and higher education establishments.
Dr Nai holds a Doctor of Business Administration Degree in Financial Management from Anglia Ruskin University in the United Kingdom.
He also earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Strategic Management from the University of Hull and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana.
The NMC said Dr Nai’s extensive leadership experience across both the public and private sectors positioned him well to lead the New Times Corporation at a critical period in the media organisation’s development.
It, therefore, expressed confidence in his ability to provide strategic leadership for the Corporation and support efforts to strengthen its role in Ghana’s media landscape.
