Canada’s Koné cheered in stadium after arriving by wheelchair

Vancouver, June 4, (dpa/GNA) – Canada’s injured midfielder, Ismael Koné, received a loud welcome from fans, as he returned to Vancouver’s stadium on Wednesday, six days after breaking his leg there and being ruled out of the World Cup.

The 24-year-old was hurt in the 6-0 win against Qatar, and has already undergone surgery.

Just over an hour before the final group match against Switzerland, the player from Italian club Sassuolo, was pushed into the arena in a wheelchair.

Koné waved to the fans and was given huge applause.
