Fijai (W/R), May 05, GNA – The Western Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has so far recorded a total of 114 fire incidents for the first quarter of this year.

Per the statistics, domestic fires topped the chart with 42 cases; 13 casualties were recorded, with four deaths.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) II David Asah Darko, the Western Regional Fire Commander, said domestic fires had been in the lead over the past years.

He, however, said as firefighters, their aim was to reduce all incidents, especially domestic fires to the barest minimum, if not totally eradicated.

He urged the citizenry, especially those in the Western Region, to adhere to all safety tips the Public Education Unit had been preaching on the radio, television, and through their door-to-door campaigns.

ACFO II Darko further urged the citizenry to stop overloading sockets and extension boards, inculcate the culture of proper housekeeping, and unplug all electrical appliances not in use.

“Never leave cooking unattended, install smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, and all exits should be free from obstruction,” he added.
