Wenchi: Court imposes 12-month jail term on young woman for causing harm

Wenchi, (Bono), May 18, GNA-The Wenchi Magistrate Court on Monday sentenced a 26-year-old young woman to 12 months imprisonment for assault and causing harm. 
 
Convict Fatima Ansoma pleaded guilty, and the court presided over by Justice Issah Abdul Wahab sentenced her accordingly. 
 
Additionally, the court ordered the convict to pay GH¢20,000 compensation to cover the medical bills of the complainant. 
 
Prosecuting Chief Inspector John Agyare told the court that the both the complainant, Mariama Abu, 32 years seamstress and the convict lived at Brohani, near Nsawkaw in the Tain District of Bono Region. 
 
He said on May 1, 2026, around 0930 hours, the complainant, with a deep cut on her right cheek went to the Nsawkaw Police Station and lodged a complaint against the convict for attacking her on April 30, April 2026 night. 
 
Chief Inspector Agyare told the court that the convict assaulted and slashed the complainant’s face with a razor blade, adding that the police subsequently arrested the convict. 
 
He explained that investigations revealed that the convict husband is a relation to the complainant, and they both (complaint and convict husband) lived in their family house at Brohani. 
 
The convict lived in a different house and often visited her husband. 
 
He said on that fateful day, around 2200 hours, the convict visited her husband in the family house and accused the complainant of having a ‘secret affair’ with her husband. 
 
Chief Inspector Agyare said a misunderstanding erupted between the convict and the complainant adding that in course of the melee the convict slapped the complainant on the face, entered her husband’s room, picked a sharp razor blade and slashed the complaint’s right cheek.
