Three arrested over cutlass clash at Akim Oda New Market

Akim Oda (E/R), May 15, GNA – The Police in Akim Oda have arrested three young men following a violent cutlass clash at the Akim Oda New Market in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region. 

One of the suspects has been placed on court remand, while the other two, who sustained injuries during the incident, have been granted police enquiry bail to enable them undergo medical treatment.  

All three suspects are expected to reappear before court on June 13, 2026.  

Chief Superintendent Eric Awiadem, the Akim Oda District Police Commander, confirmed the arrest to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview.  

The suspects have been identified as George Okyere, Paul Pascalee, and Evans Addyele.  

An eyewitness, who spoke to the GNA on condition of anonymity, said the suspects had a longstanding dispute which escalated into a confrontation at the market on May 6, 2026.  

According to the source, the suspects allegedly seized cutlasses displayed for sale at the market and used them to attack each other, resulting in severe injuries.  

The injured men were subsequently rushed to the Akim Oda Government Hospital and the Jubilee Hospital for treatment.  

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
