Akatsi (VR), May 2, 2026 (GNA) – A philanthropist, Reverend Father Enyonam, in collaboration with friends, has initiated a programme to supply 2,000 desks to basic schools in the Akatsi South Municipality to improve teaching and learning conditions.
The intervention, which targets kindergarten, primary, and junior high schools, is expected to ease the furniture deficit across the municipality.
A statement signed by Mr. Karim Ayaana Umar, Municipal Director of Education, said an initial batch of 500 mono-desks had already been delivered to the Akatsi South Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for onward distribution to eight selected schools.
The beneficiary schools for the first phase are Akatsi R.C. Basic School, Wlite R.C. Primary School, Akatsico Practice ‘A’, Adzikame M.A. Basic School, Agbedrafor R.C. Basic School, Atsiekpui M.A. Primary School, Wuxor M.A. Basic School, and Akatsi Demonstration Basic School.
The statement said a ceremony would be held to officially distribute the first consignment of desks and to express appreciation to the donors for their support.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 1000 hours at the Akatsi Roman Catholic Basic School.
It invited headteachers of the beneficiary schools to attend and urged them to extend invitations to School Management Committee (SMC) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) executives, community chiefs, and assembly members to witness the occasion.
It noted that the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Daniel Dagba, as well as personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, are expected to attend.
The Directorate expressed optimism that the initiative would significantly improve classroom infrastructure and enhance effective teaching and learning outcomes in the municipality.
