Tema, May 11, GNA — The first batch of beneficiaries under the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) in the Tema metropolis have received tools and equipment to support their vocational training and entrepreneurship development.

The distribution ceremony, held at the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), formed part of efforts by the National Apprenticeship Programme, managed by the National Youth Authority (NYA), to equip young people with practical skills for self-employment.

Speaking at the event, Mr Jonas Klutse, the Greater Accra Regional Coordinator of the NAP, said the distribution of the tools was intended to support vocational training and promote self-reliance among beneficiaries.

He explained that the equipment provided was tailored to the various trades selected by the apprentices to help them transition from training into income-generating activities.

Mr Klutse described the initiative as a long-term investment in Ghana’s industrialisation drive and a practical step towards tackling youth unemployment through skills development.

He said the programme represented a collective effort involving government, master craftspeople, communities, apprentices, and private sector partners.

Mr Klutse cautioned beneficiaries against selling the tools, stressing that they were intended to support their long-term careers and economic independence.

Madam Ebi Bright, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, said President John Dramani Mahama remained committed to youth empowerment and skills development, hence the introduction of the flagship programme.

Madam Bright described the initiative as a deliberate investment in the future of young people and a means of helping them transform their talents into sustainable livelihoods.

She urged beneficiaries to take their training seriously and make effective use of the support provided.

The National Apprenticeship Programme seeks to reduce youth unemployment by providing artisanal training, promoting entrepreneurship, and supporting economic empowerment through practical learning opportunities.

Items distributed to beneficiaries included Butterfly hand-sewing machines, industrial sewing machines, electrical tool kits, screwdrivers, welding and plumbing equipment, as well as personal protective equipment such as safety boots and helmets.
