Keklebesi (V/R), May 30, GNA – A fatal motorbike collision near Keklebesi in the Agortime-Ziope District of the Volta Region has claimed one life.
The deceased has been identified as Mr Lavoe Dogbeda, a native of Agbedor Kofe, a farming community in the District.
The incident occurred on Thursday, May 28, at about 0800 hours on the Keklebesi stretch of the Ziope-Akatsi road.
An eyewitness, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on condition of anonymity, said Mr Dogbeda was travelling from Ziope while another motorcyclist was heading from Keyime towards Ziope when their motorcycles collided head-on.
The eyewitness said the impact of the collision led to the instant death of Mr Dogbeda.
The other motorcyclist, Rev. Jacob Dovi, a Pastor of Pentecostal Ministry International Church, Ziope, sustained severe injuries in the accident and is currently receiving treatment at the Ho Teaching Hospital.
The body of the deceased has also been deposited at the same facility pending police investigation and autopsy.
Mr Moses Yao Awaga, Assemblyman for the Adzonkor Electoral Area, confirmed the incident to the GNA and described it as unfortunate and heartbreaking.
He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and urged motorists, especially motorcyclists, to exercise caution on the roads to help reduce accidents in the area.
The tragic incident has thrown residents of Keklebesi, Adzonkor, Agbedor Kofe, Kpenkor, Kpoenawor, Agbalevi, and surrounding communities into a state of mourning.
Some residents who spoke to the GNA called on road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and avoid excessive speeding, particularly on narrow community roads.
The police are expected to conduct further investigations into the cause of the accident.
