Nkroful (W/R), May 1, GNA – ADAMUS Resources Limited, a mining company has petitioned Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources over the recent revocation of three of the company’s mining leases.
Madam Angela List, Chief Executive Officer of ADAMUS Resources Limited, presented the petition to the Minister in Accra.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources recently revoked the leases following investigations by the Minerals Commission, which found the company culpable of infractions and breaches of the Minerals and Mining Act.
The Commission cited ADAMUS for ceding part of its concession to a foreign company for alluvial mining without the requisite ministerial approval, an action it said amounted to illegal mining, popularly known as “galamsey.”
According to a statement issued by the Minister, ADAMUS Resources Limited has appealed to the Ministry to reverse the revocation.
“The Company wants government to temper justice with mercy after the withdrawal of its licences based on a recommendation from the Minerals Commission,” the statement said.
“In line with due process, the Minister will constitute an independent committee to assess the merits of the petition and make appropriate recommendations,” it added.
Pending the outcome of the committee’s work, an Interim Management Committee, with representatives from ADAMUS Resources, will be established to oversee operations at the mine.
The statement reaffirmed the Minister’s commitment to the strict enforcement of mining laws and effective regulation of the sector, in line with government’s reset agenda.
“The outcome of the review process will be communicated in due course. Meanwhile, the revocation remains in force,” it said.
