Agona Swedru (C/R), May 26, GNA – A 23-year-old hairdressing apprentice, Hajia Hawa, drowned on Friday afternoon after she slipped and fell in a large drain near the Swedru Mandela Market during a heavy downpour.

Hawa, the last born of her family, was carried away by the rushing water and has since not been found despite a three-day frantic search by the Swedru Asafo Company.

She was on an errand to purchase wigs from a supermarket near the Mandela Market when the incident occurred, her senior sister, Mrs Hadiya Mustapha, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

She said the incident was reported to opinion leaders in the community who immediately dispatched a search party to retrieve her sister, but their efforts had been futile.

It is suspected that Hawa has been swept into the Akora River which flooded its banks during downpour.

Mrs Mustapha expressed gratitude to the search team and the community for their show of support and love during the three-day intensive search.
