GNFS receives fire tender, equipment to boost fire fighting operations

Accra, May 13, GNA – The Government of Ghana has received a Mercedes-Benz fire tender and firefighting equipment to boost the operations of the Ghana National Fire Service. 

The equipment were donated by Fire Aid & International Development, UK, with support from Mr. Storms Menri.  

Mr Rob Macdougall, Chief Fire Officer Oxfordshire, UK, officially handing over the items to the government said it was expected to enhance the GNFS’s capacity to respond effectively to fire outbreaks and other emergencies. 

Mr Ebenezer  Okletey Terlabi, the Deputy Minister for the Interior, receiving the equipment on behalf of government expressed gratitude to the donors for the timely and impactful contribution. 

He said the support demonstrated a strong spirit of partnership and a shared commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country. 

“This donation comes at a critical time. The addition of this fire tender and equipment will significantly strengthen the operational capacity of the Ghana National Fire Service,” Mr Terlabi said. 

He noted that the intervention was not only a contribution of logistics but also an investment in public safety, national resilience, and the well-being of citizens. 

He commended Mr. Menri for his continued dedication to supporting the Ghana National Fire Service, noting that the gesture would have a lasting impact on its operations. 

The Deputy Minister also praised the GNFS for their professionalism, courage, and commitment to duty despite challenging working conditions. 

He reaffirmed government’s commitment to retooling the Service and improving working conditions for personnel, while continuing to seek partnerships to strengthen emergency response systems nationwide. 

Mrs Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sapong, the Chief Officer (CFO), said the gesture adds to the couple of support Fire Aid & International Development had shown to the Service over the period. 

She assured that the equipment would be effectively utilised for the benefit of the people of Ghana.
