Kumasi, May 30, GNA – The management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that the upgrading of key sub-transmission lines in Greater Kumasi will be completed on June 5, 2026.

The key sub-transmission lines include the line from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Primary Substation to the Kaase Primary Substation.

Also expected to be completed is the sub-transmission line from Kaase to the Ridge Bulk Supply Point in Kumasi.

These details were contained in a press statement copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and signed by Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, General Manager for External Communications at ECG.

He indicated that the completion of these key projects will improve power supply reliability and voltage quality, and strengthen electricity supply to Kaase, Kuntenase, Sewua, Bekwai, and surrounding communities.

The statement noted that as part of the project, the existing 265 square millimetre (sqmm) conductors are being replaced with 400 sqmm conductors.

Additionally, weak cables are being replaced to enhance power transfer capacity and improve the reliability and stability of electricity supply across Greater Kumasi.

Dr Ayiku stated that the upgrading project would reinforce the sub-transmission link between Kumasi One (K1) and Kumasi Two (K2) Bulk Supply Points, which will improve overall network resilience within the Ashanti Region.

He apologised to residents for any inconvenience caused during the execution of the project.

“These temporary challenges are necessary for the greater good of strengthening and securing a more reliable electricity supply in the region,” the statement concluded.
