Accra, May 8, GNA – The Civil Service Council has commended the Ministry of Finance for its role in stabilising the Ghanaian economy.

The Council described the Ministry’s performance as a demonstration of effective public sector leadership and sound economic management.

The commendation was made during a familiarisation visit by Council members to the Ministry, where discussions focused on economic management, institutional challenges, staff development, and inter-agency collaboration.

Dr. Lawrence Akanweeke Kannae, Chairman of the Council, praised officials of the Ministry for their resilience and commitment in navigating the country through economic difficulties.

“You have demonstrated commitment and dedication at a very critical period for the country. The economy is responding positively, and many Ghanaians are beginning to regain confidence,” he said, noting the recent appreciation of the cedi against major currencies.

He urged Ministry staff to sustain the momentum and continue working with professionalism and integrity, emphasising that the Council’s engagement was part of ongoing visits to MDAs to strengthen collaboration and service delivery.

Dr. Patrick Nomo, Chief Director of the Ministry, thanked the Council for its support and highlighted recent reforms, including the Commitment Authorisation System, which he said has reduced waste and improved public resource management.

“The leadership of the Minister for Finance has played a major role in steering the economy toward recovery and rebuilding confidence in public financial management,” he added.

Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, Head of the Civil Service, stressed the need for continuous staff development to meet global standards and described the Ministry as key in shaping a resilient and self-sustaining economy.
