Assin Darmang (C/R), May 28, GNA- Traditional leaders in the Assin Atandansu area in the Assin South District of the Central Region have launched a campaign dubbed “Stop SHS sports hooliganism” to sanitise future inter-school sports competitions.

The initiative led by Nana Bafour Adjei X, headmaster of Adankwaman Senior High School, is aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence, restoring discipline and ensuring sanity during school sports activities across the region.

Over the past years, sporting and social activities among senior high schools in the Central Region have been characterised by acts of violence, prompting education stakeholders to embark on a peaceful campaign to help change the narrative.

Speaking at the official launch, Nana Adjei stated that, traditional leaders considered it their responsibility to help maintain peace within educational institutions.

He urged all stakeholders to continue to advise the youth against hooliganism and violence.

Mrs Harriet Oduraa Aidan Sagoe, Deputy Central Regional Director of Education who graced the occasion, advised students to reflect on the long-term consequences of violent behaviour and embrace sportsmanship, unity and mutual respect during competitions.

Adding his voice to the campaign, Reverend Father Cyril Arthur, a Parish Priest pledged the support of the clergy towards the initiative.

He called on students to uphold discipline and peaceful conduct during school activities.

The campaign is expected to involve sensitisation programs, stakeholder engagements and educational activities aimed at promoting unity and responsible behaviour among students during sporting activities.
