Kumasi, May 18, GNA – Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase, has inspected the ongoing demolition exercise at the Aboabo Traditional Market ahead of the commencement of the 24-hour economy model market project.
The inspection, according to the MP, was to ensure that contractors executing the demolition works delivered according to expectation and within the required standards.
Alhaji Muntaka expressed satisfaction with the progress of work at the site, observing that previous attempts over the years to redevelop the market had not materialised.
He said he was optimistic that the completion of the project would significantly improve trading activities and further boost the local economy.
The MP noted that unlike previous administrations, the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had responded to the long-standing concerns and appeals of residents, with work now officially underway.
He commended residents and traders for their discipline and cooperation throughout the demolition process and appealed to them to remain patient as government pushed ahead with the redevelopment project.
According to him, the successful execution of the project would require continuous understanding and collaboration from all stakeholders.
Alhaji Muntaka assured traders affected by the demolition exercise that those who previously owned stores at the market would be given priority in the re-allocation of stores upon completion of the facility.
“As Member of Parliament, I will ensure that all traders who had stores before the demolition are considered first before any other interests,” he stated.
The MP also inspected renovation works at Aboabo Middle B School, where infrastructure improvement works are ongoing to create a more conducive teaching and learning environment for both students and teachers.
He said the projects reflected government’s commitment to infrastructure development, community transformation, and the overall improvement of livelihoods within the municipality.
Alhaji Muntaka expressed satisfaction with the pace, quality, and level of work being undertaken on both projects.
He was accompanied by Mr. Ben Abdullah Alhassan, Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore-Mampong Municipality, as well as some constituency executives of the party.
