Konongo-Odumasi, May 4 (GNA) – The Asante-Akim Central Municipal Assembly has presented livelihood support items to 35 persons living with disabilities (PWDs) as part of efforts to improve their economic well-being and promote independence.

The beneficiaries form the second batch under the Assembly’s 2025 support programme, which is expected to cover about 130 persons across the municipality.

Dr Ebenezer Ekow Aidoo, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who presented the items, disclosed that 65 beneficiaries were supported during the first phase, while a final batch of 30 persons would receive assistance in the coming weeks.

He explained that the support was demand-driven, with beneficiaries receiving items based on their specific requests to enable them to engage in income-generating activities.

“We provide the items requested by the beneficiaries, offer training, and support some of them to install their equipment to ensure effective use,” Dr Aidoo stated.

He added that the Assembly would continue to offer technical guidance, training, and, where necessary, financial support to ensure the sustainability of the beneficiaries’ businesses.

Dr Aidoo urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items, indicating that the Assembly would undertake regular monitoring to assess progress and provide additional support where needed.

“In about a month, we will come round to monitor your progress. We will not leave you on your own; we will continue to guide and support you,” he assured.

He also encouraged the public to report persons living with disabilities to the Social Welfare Department to enable the Assembly to extend support to them.

The initiative forms part of the Assembly’s broader commitment to improving the welfare of persons with disabilities and enhancing their participation in local economic activities.

Mr Eric Owusu Boadi, the Municipal Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, reiterated the need for beneficiaries to utilise the items effectively to improve their livelihoods.
