Sunyani Krontrihene’s suspension remains in force – Traditional Council

Sunyani, (Bono), April 22, GNA – The Sunyani Traditional Council (STC) in the Bono Region says the suspension of Oboaman Bofotia Boa-Amponsem II, the Krontrihene (sub-chief) of the Sunyani Traditional Area is still in force or subsists.

In a statement issued and signed by Nana Kwaku Sarbeng Ababio, the Acting President of the STC emphasised that Nana Akosua Dua Asor Sika Brayie II, the Paramount Queen-mother of the Sunyani Traditional Area “has no legal capacity or authority to revoke the suspension of the Krontrihene”.

The STC’s statement was in reaction to a letter issued by the Queen-mother purportedly lifting the “Indefinite suspension imposed on Oboaman Bofotia Boa-Amponsem II” by the STC in 2024.

A copy of the statement made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani said that: “It’s only the Omanhene of the Sunyani Traditional Area who has the ultimate legal authority to revoke the suspension of the Krontrihene because the Kronrtihene owes allegiance to the Omanhene and not the Queen-mother”.

Also signed by some members of the STC, the statement added that: “The Queen-mother isn’t a member of the STC”, saying that justifying that she therefore had no right to take any decisions on behalf of the STC and to revoke the suspension of the Krontrihene.

It stated that the Queen-mother wrote a letter dated 13th April 2026 and addressed to the STC and seeking their consent for the revocation of the suspension of the Krontrihene.

“However, in a quick response to her dated 17th April 2026, the STC indicated among other things that she has no capacity to make such a call. It is therefore unacceptable and very strange for the Queen-mother to communicate to the public on such a sensitive matter”, the statement noted.

The statement emphasised that the: “The Krontrihene still remains under suspension,” describing the Queen-mother’s revocation as complete nullity without effect.

“Nananom wishes to place on record that since ascension to the Omanhene stool, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II has dutifully taken every step and consultations in a bid to revoke the suspension of the Krontihene,” it explained.

The statement added that: “The Omanhene of Sunyani is committed to ensuring that sanity returns to the Krontire family and the Krontire stool and he is making all efforts to put pieces together despite all the challenges”.
