One arrested as police probe killing of Indian national; IGP deploys crack investigative team

Kumasi, April 26, GNA – The Police in Kumasi have arrested one person in connection with the murder of an Indian national, Mr. Devendra Singh, whose body was found in a vehicle at the outskirts of Sabin Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region. 

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, is currently in Police custody assisting with investigations. 

A statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, said the deceased had earlier been reported missing, prompting the Police to initiate a search to locate him. 

It said on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at about 1400 hours, the Police received information that a vehicle believed to belong to the missing person had been found near the Royal Lemosey Hospital at Sabin Akrofuom. 

A team of officers was immediately dispatched to the scene, where they found the vehicle parked by the roadside. 

“Upon inspection, the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered in the boot of the vehicle with multiple stab wounds,” the statement said. 

The Ashanti Regional Crime Scene Management Team subsequently processed the scene, after which the body was conveyed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue for preservation and autopsy. 

The vehicle has since been impounded to aid ongoing investigations. 

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed a special team comprising intelligence officers and homicide investigators to support the Ashanti Regional Police Command in its investigations and to ensure that all persons connected to the crime are apprehended. 

The Police assured the public of their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and appealed to anyone with relevant information to assist with the investigations.
