Mali says troops repositioned in northern Kidal region

BAMAKO, April 27 (Xinhua/GNA) — The Malian Armed Forces are adjusting their troop deployment in the northern Kidal region, and have repositioned troops to the locality of Anefis from the city of Kidal, Chief of the General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces Oumar Diarra has said.

Speaking on Malian national television on Sunday, Diarra said the move was aimed at increasing the flexibility and adaptability of the army’s deployment.

A Malian security source told Xinhua on Monday that Kidal, is currently controlled by the Azawad Liberation Front, a separatist group in northern Mali.

Anefis is located more than 100 km south of the city of Kidal, on the route leading southward from Kidal toward Gao.

Mali has recently seen a series of armed attacks in several parts of the country, with the security situation remaining tense.
