By Kamal Ahmed/GNA

Kodjonya (E/R), April 2, GNA – Mr Ebenezer Korley Agudey, Assembly Member for the Kodjonya Electoral Area in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, has commended the Ghana News Agency (GNA) for its prompt coverage of a fatal fire incident in the community.

The tragedy occurred at Kodjonya, a suburb of Odumase-Krobo, where a husband and wife died in a devastating fire believed to have started when petrol used to treat a bedbug infestation encountered an electrical source.

Reacting to the publication, Mr Agudey expressed appreciation to the GNA and its correspondent, Mr Kamal Ahmed, for responding swiftly and bringing the incident to public attention despite the short notice.

In a message of appreciation, he said:  “My sincere gratitude to you Ahmed and the Ghana News Agency for going the extra mile to cover yesterday’s fire outbreak in my electoral area at such short notice, despite your busy schedule. Your dedication to informing the public is truly commendable.”

Mr Agudey noted that timely and accurate reportage of tragic incidents was crucial in raising public awareness, attracting institutional attention, and educating communities on fire safety and prevention.

He said the media remained a vital partner in community development and emergency response, particularly in situations involving loss of life and urgent need for public education.

The Assembly Member urged residents to take fire safety seriously and avoid dangerous practices, including the use of petrol and other flammable substances in homes, especially pest control.

He echoed calls by the Ghana National Fire Service for homeowners and landlords to ensure buildings had accessible emergency exits to prevent similar incidents.

Mr Agudey said the unfortunate incident had left the Kodjonya community in shock and mourning, adding that sustained public education and stakeholder support were needed to avert future occurrences.
