Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled calls for more care, inclusivity and needs prioritisation

By Mildred Siabi-Mensah

Takoradi, April 8, GNA – The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled has expressed regret over the neglect of physically disabled individuals, particularly during festive seasons.

Mr. Courage Wormenor National President, Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Takondi , said while various groups received support during festive occasions, the physically disabled were often overlooked.

“As Sallah and Easter celebrations fade, we are reminded of the generosity shown to various groups, but a marginalized community, the physically disabled remains overlooked”, he added.

Mr. Wormenor,  mentioned that while rice, sugar, and poly tanks were distributed, “the deafening silence on wheelchairs and mobility aids for those who need them most is striking.

In our churches, mosques, and communities, we coexist with individuals who have been forgotten, left to navigate life’s challenges without support”, he added.

The National President, therefore called on society to prioritize inclusivity and accessibility, adding that “Let’s redirect our focus to support the disabled”.

Mr Wormenor urged Ghanaians to abide by Jesus’s teachings to uplift the marginalized.

He appealed to leaders, Members of Parliament, Imams, clergy, and families to advocate the needs of the disabled, saying they deserved empowerment, not just acknowledgement.
