Accra, March 28, GNA- Dr Clement Abass Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education, has advised Accra Technical University graduates to uphold integrity because their character will define their future legacy.
“Your degree is not your destination. It is your foundation. The future of Ghana will not be built by chance. It will be built by skilled, innovative, and forward-thinking graduates,” he said.
The Mimister gave the advice during the University’s 25th Congregation on Friday for Master of Technology, Master of Science, Bachelor of Technology, Higher National Diploma and Diploma certificate.
In all, 7,816 students graduated from the programmes.
It was on the theme: “Emerging Technologies—How Prepared is the ATU Graduate?”
Dr Apaak charged the graduates to prepare for the job market and effectively apply their knowledge to solve real-world problems.
“As you leave these grounds, carry with you not only your certificates but also a sense of purpose. Go out and shape industries and create solutions,” he said.
Dr Apaak encouraged them to take advantage of Artificial Intelligence to enhance their knowledge and transform industries and economies.
He commended the University for its role in shaping the students to unearth their potential.
“Technical universities like ATU have a critical advantage. You are not only trained to understand systems, but you are trained to build, design, and improve them,” he said.
Technical Universities must continue to serve as engines of innovation, hubs of problem-solving, and catalysts for industrial growth, he said.
Dr Apaak announced that the Government had secured approximately $300 million from the World Bank to transform education, particularly in technical and vocational training.
It was also moving deliberately from a system dominated by theory to one that prioritised practical skills and applied learning.
“We are also investing in digital transformation across the education sector, expanding access to digital learning platforms and integrating technology into teaching and assessment,” he said.
Prof Amevi Acakpovi, the Vice Chancellor of ATU, said the University was not only celebrating academic excellence but also a major milestone in the history of the institution.
“For the first time since our conversion to a Technical University, ATU is proud to graduate its pioneer cohorts of Master of Technology and Master of Science students,” he said.
He said over the past year, ATU had deepened its relevance as a leading technical and vocational institution, expanding strategic industry partnerships and improving infrastructure development.
He urged the graduates to be ambassadors of excellence, innovation, and integrity in their various disciplines.
Mr Kingsley Dzade, from the Faculty of Engineering, who was adjudged the Best Graduating HND Student, commended the University for the opportunity and pledged to contribute to national development.
