Twifo Nuamakrom (C/R), Mar 07, GNA – The Member of Parliament for Twifo-Atti-Morkwa, Mr Theophilus Vondee, has expressed concern over worsening water challenges in the constituency, attributing them to illegal mining activities affecting water bodies, particularly the River Pra.
He said the situation had compelled him to initiate the construction of mechanised boreholes across several communities to improve access to potable water.
Mr Vondee also highlighted the need to improve educational infrastructure, citing the Twifo Praso D/A Basic School, established over 20 years ago under former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Speaking during the 69th Independence Day celebration at Twifo Nuamakrom, he urged residents to support efforts to combat illegal mining, noting that parts of the area had been classified as dangerous zones.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Isaac Yawson, also advised the youth to pursue sustainable livelihoods instead of engaging in illegal mining.
Mr Hakim Adei, a member of the Central Regional Council of State, assured farmers that government had implemented policies to support the cocoa sector.
Eight schools, including the Twifo Praso Senior High School Regimental Band, participated in the parade.
