Tema, March 02, GNA — Smart FC defeated Teye FC 2–1 in a fiercely contested community football friendly match held on Sunday at Agapet Park in the Lashibi-Klagon enclave.
The match, which attracted a large crowd from across the community, was organised to promote communal harmony and provide a platform for young footballers to showcase their talents to potential scouts.
Both teams demonstrated strong intent from the first whistle, displaying skill, determination and tactical awareness throughout the encounter.
Smart FC exhibited excellent tactical discipline, effectively controlling key areas of the pitch and limiting Teye FC’s attacking opportunities.
The decisive moment came in the 74th minute when Maurison Gedematu scored a stunning goal to break the deadlock, handing Smart FC the lead.
Despite a spirited attempt by Teye FC to stage a comeback, Smart FC’s defence held firm until the final whistle, securing the victory.
Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the match, Mr Gyawu Kwame, the Head Coach of Smart FC, attributed the win to rigorous preparation and discipline.
He said the team entered the game with a specific tactical plan to neutralise Teye FC’s midfield strength and expressed pride in how the players executed the strategy.
“Our focus now is to keep these players grounded and continue developing their technical abilities for bigger opportunities,” he stated.
Maurison Gedematu, who was named Player of the Match, expressed excitement at scoring in front of his home community.
He said playing before local supporters was a dream come true and pledged to continue working hard towards his ambition of representing the Black Stars.
The organisers of the event called on corporate bodies and the Minister of Youth and Sports to invest in community sports infrastructure to help nurture emerging talent across the country.
They emphasised that grassroots football remained a vital pathway for discovering and developing future national stars.
