Saudi Arabia says two killed, reporting first deaths in Iran conflict

Riyadh, March 8, (dpa/GNA) – Two people were killed and 12 injured in Saudi Arabia on Sunday, when a military projectile fell on a residential site, the Saudi civil defence authority said in a statement.

The two killed were an Indian and a Bangladeshi, while the 12 injured were all from Bangladesh. The site is affiliated with a maintenance and cleaning company in al-Kharj province.

These are the first deaths reported by Saudi Arabia since the conflict erupted. The kingdom has reported missile and drone attacks targeting US bases and oil fields. Many of the projectiles are repelled by air defences.

The statement did not say where the projectiles originated from, however, the spokesman stressed that “attempts to target civilian facilities are a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.”

Prince Sultan Air Base is located in al-Kharj, south of Riyadh, and has been repeatedly targeted in recent days.
