Russia puts out oil depot fire caused by Ukrainian drones

Moscow, March 15, (dpa/GNA) – A blaze caused by an overnight Ukrainian drone attack on an oil storage depot near Tikhoretsk in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region has been doused, the regional authority reported on Sunday, around half a day after the fire broke out.

The attack on the depot, which lies to the east of the Crimean Peninsula, hundreds of kilometres from the front lines, was the second in recent days.

Two high-voltage powerlines were also damaged in the attack, according to the regional authority.

Russian forces have repeatedly targeted Ukrainian energy infrastructure, since the full-scale invasion in February 2022.

In response, the Ukrainian military has hit Russia’s oil and gas sector, with the aim of disrupting supplies to the Russian military and of undermining financing for the war through exports.
