Accra, March 24, GNA – The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has revealed that the contractor responsible for the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project has not allegedly receive any payment for work carried out, contradicting earlier allegations of an $11.9 million payout.
Speaking before the Government Assurances Committee of Parliament, on Tuesday in Parliament House, Mr. Jinapor said, “Preliminary investigations showed no financial disbursement was made to the contractor.”
“Our preliminary investigations show that the contractor was not paid for the work done, and so, we have referred the matter to the Attorney General for investigation and possible prosecution,” he told the Committee.
The Minister attributed the challenge in resolving the matter to the contractor’s departure from Ghana. “The only unfortunate thing is that the contractor has left the shores of Ghana and so the Attorney General is well placed to handle that matter,” Mr. Jinapor said.
The Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project, aimed at supporting irrigation, flood control, and power generation in northern Ghana, has faced delays and controversy over procurement, funding, and execution.
