Kwatire, (Bono), March 27, GNA – Dr Daniel Gunguni, the Medical Superintendent of the Kwatire Governmental Hospital in the Sunyani West Municipality has appealed for medical devices for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Hospital.
He said the NICU required tube and Led photo therapies, perfussers, concentrators, infant monitors, weighing scales and related devices to enable it to attend to increasing cases of preterm babies in the area.
Dr Gunguni made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the opening of the NICU of the facility at Kwatire in the Bono Region.
He appealed to, especially, natives of the area, residents abroad as well as wealthy individuals, NGOs and philanthropic organisations and individuals to come to their aid.
Dr Gunguni said the facility’s Out-Patient Department (OPD) attendance had improved and responded to many referral cases, saying that the hospital needed modern medical machines to provide quality healthcare service delivery to the people.
He said no amount was little and urged the community members to also contribute their widow’s mite in procuring the NICU devices.
Mrs Elizabeth Sofaah, the Head of the NICU of the Kwatire Government Hospital said the unit had two incubators, and added however that they were not enough, saying that preterm cases continued increasing as the facility received referrals from the rural communities.
