KETASCO triumphs in 69th National Independence Day SHS Quiz Competition

Anloga, (V/R), March 02, GNA-Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) popularly called “Dzolali” in the Volta Region, has emerged victorious in the 69th Independence Day Celebration Schools Quiz Competition for the Senior High School category. 

The national finals, which were held on Sunday, March 1, at the GNAT Hostel in Accra, were part of activities marking Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations, under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.” 

Four SHSs from across the country qualified and competed in the finals. After three keenly contested rounds, KETASCO clinched the top spot with 43 points.  

Serwaa Kesse Girls’ Senior High School from Ahafo Region placed second with 41 points, Akumadan Senior High School from Ashanti Region came third with 31 points, while Bolgatanga Senior High School in Upper East placed fourth with 28 points. 

Throughout the competition, the finalists demonstrated an impressive depth of knowledge, critical thinking, and teamwork. Their strong performances kept the audience engaged as they answered challenging questions drawn from various areas of focus. 

KETASCO qualified for the national finals after defeating St. Mary’s Senior High School, NIFA Senior High School, and Lashibi Senior High School during the national semi-final stages held a few weeks earlier. 

KETASCO’s winning team comprised Freda Esenam Glah, Aidoo Joel, Kamasah Bright Doe, and Jerry Etsey Dzimabi. They were coached by a team of dedicated teachers, including Mr Gbadago Prince, a government teacher and the team’s coordinator, Mr Awuyno Isaac, also a government teacher and Coordinating secretary with other staff members. 

Speaking after the competition, Mr Prince Gbadago attributed the victory to hard work and dedication and expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who supported the team. 

“This victory is the product of countless hours of preparation, dedication from our students, and the steadfast support of teachers, management, and all stakeholders who believed in the journey from the very beginning.”  

Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education, Madam Kathleen Addy, in presenting the awards congratulated the contestants on their show of strong academic powers.  

The award package included cartons of Indomie noodles, fifty copies of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, a cash prize of GH¢5,000, plagues, and a golden winner’s trophy.  

The annual Independence Day Schools Quiz competition is organised by the National Commission for Civic Education in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and other partners. It is a broader effort to promote patriotism, academic excellence, and national consciousness among students. 

This latest victory adds to KETASCO’s growing list of achievements in academic and co-curricular competitions.  

Upon the teams return to campus on Sunday night, they received a rousing, joyful welcome from students and staff, who celebrated enthusiastically in an already festive atmosphere following the school’s recent 73rd anniversary held a day earlier which celebrated lots of achievements.
