Tel Aviv, arch 23, (dpa/GNA) – Israel’s military said on Monday, it was continuing “targeted ground operations” in southern Lebanon, adding that troops had detained several armed members of the Hezbollah militia and taken them to Israel for questioning.
The Israeli army said the fighters who were captured on Sunday, had planned to fire a rocket at Israeli soldiers and were preparing a position for attacks on Israel.
The suspects surrendered and were found carrying a large quantity of weapons and equipment, the military said. Initial findings suggested they had moved from eastern Lebanon to the south at the start of the war with Iran.
The Israeli military accused the Lebanese armed forces of failing to disarm Hezbollah, and prevent its military presence in southern Lebanon, as required under existing agreements.
Israel has previously detained individuals in neighbouring countries, whom it accuses of involvement in militant activities and transferred them to Israel.
Hezbollah entered the Iran war in early March on the side of Tehran, and resumed rocket attacks on northern Israel for the first time since a ceasefire in November 2024.
In response, Israel said on March 16 it had launched “limited and targeted ground operations” in southern Lebanon.
