Sunyani, March 7, GNA – Some queen-mothers in the Sunyani Municipality have marked Ghana’s 69th Independence Day anniversary with the promotion of traditionally prepared dishes, to inspire Ghanaians to develop the appetite for local cuisine.
They prepared traditional foods like ‘Fle, Tuo Zaafi, Etor, fufu, Kokonte, Tubaani, Akpiti, Apepransa and Ampesi’ and later feted with some vulnerable people, including head potters and hawkers at Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital.
The Stewards Impact Foundation (SIF), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) brought the queen-mothers, comprising Kussasis, Grumas, Dagombas and Akan tribes together for the event.
Odombarima Baffuor Awuah Akomea Sakyi, the Chief Executive Officer for SIF, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the event that the NGO sought to build and strengthen coordination among the queen-mothers.
He said the NGO had also launched a project to build the capacities of the queen-mothers in entrepreneurship development.
Odombarima Sakyi, also a sub-chief in the Dormaa Traditional Area said under the project, the queen-mothers would be trained to become peace advocates exposing them to basic mediation strategies and conflict management and resolution.
Nana Ama Kyeremaa Adepa, the Gyaasehemaa (sub-queen) of the Sunyani Traditional Area commended the NGO for the event, saying that the role of queens in peace building and sustenance remained unparalleled.
