Accra, March 12, GNA – The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) says its nationwide strike will continue “unabated” after a review by its National Executive Council.
The industrial action, which began on March 9, 2026, is aimed at securing the implementation of a unique salary structure for members of the association.
Mr Isaac Bampoe Addo, Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, announced the decision at a press conference in Accra on Thursday after the council reviewed interventions made in relation to the strike.
“The National Executive Council of CLOGSAG reviewed all interventions that had been made in relation to the strike action embarked on by CLOGSAG from March 9. After deliberations, it was unanimously decided that the strike action should continue unabated,” he said.
The development follows a meeting convened by the National Labour Commission (NLC) on Wednesday, March 11, to address the impasse.
However, CLOGSAG executives did not attend the meeting.
Mr Addo said the association had not received official communication regarding the meeting and questioned the process adopted by the commission.
“You invite us to a meeting, and one party is not around and then you go ahead and make decisions. That is not natural justice,” he said, adding that the union had not been formally notified of the proceedings.
The meeting has since been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 18.
CLOGSAG said it was awaiting written communication from the Government on discussions held earlier in the week.
“We have requested government that all the discussions we have had should be put into writing. We are yet to receive that,” Mr Addo noted.
Responding to questions about the association’s push for the implementation of an agreement reached under the previous administration, he said the issue had been discussed during the transition process and should be honoured by the current Government.
He said the unique salary structure had already been partially implemented, noting that some staff of the Ministry of Finance were benefiting from it.
“If we are all civil servants and some are enjoying the structure while others are not, should we not complain?” he asked.
The leadership of CLOGSAG said the strike was necessary to protect the welfare of members, noting that salary-related issues also affect retirement benefits and pensions.
The association said members would remain at home until their concerns were addressed.
CLOGSAG earlier declared the strike to demand the full implementation of a memorandum of understanding on a separate salary structure for its members across the civil and local government services.
