Benkum Old Students Association Holds 2026 AGM to Reflect on Progress

Winneba (C/R), March 27, GNA – The Benkum Old Students Association (BOSA) has held its 2026 Annual General Meeting to reflect on the progress of the association, review activities, and chart the way forward for the continued growth of both BOSA and Benkum Senior High School in the Eastern Region.

The event, held under the theme “Unity, Accountability and Legacy: Building the Future of Benkum Together,” covered the association’s 2024/2025 activities.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Winneba, ACP Dr Samuel Asiedu Okanta, President of BOSA, said the meeting reaffirmed members’ collective commitment, as Royals, to remain the backbone of support to their alma mater.

“It is this spirit of loyalty, unity and commitment to our alma mater that continues to keep our association vibrant and relevant,” he said.

ACP Dr Okanta, who also leads the BOSA Executive, noted that the event was used to recognise and appreciate members who had consistently supported the association and contributed to the development and image of Benkum SHS.

Among those honoured with plaques and certificates were Mr Osikani Thomas Yeboa Wadie for his outstanding financial and other support, and ACP Dr Asiedu Okanta for his leadership, dedicated service, and commitment to the transformation of BOSA.

Dr George Addo Larbi, BOSA Executive Council Chairman, was recognised for his leadership, while Prof George Kankam was honoured for his role as Chairman of the BOSA Peace and Reconciliation Committee.

Dr Joel Sonne was also honoured for being the first BOSA Global President and for his contributions to the association’s development.

Other awardees included Mr Ebenezer Odoi, Mr Affum Gyimah, Dr Odame Larbi, Madam Janet Okekyere, Mr Okraku Arthur Ntow, Mr Kwame Yeboah Okofo Darteh, Mr Akrofi Darko, Madam Diana Maureen Akakpo, Mrs Esther Mfum Addo, Nana Ohene Ntow, Madam Magerette Nguah, and Mr Emmanuel Opoku Dentu, for their various contributions towards the transformation of BOSA.

All BOSA year groups were also presented with certificates of appreciation for their support and contributions to the association and the school.

ACP Dr Okanta, whose tenure ends in May this year, said: “By recognising these individuals, we celebrate not only their personal contributions but also the enduring Benkum spirit of service, solidarity, and pride in our alma mater.

“Their example must inspire all of us to continue supporting the association and the school in diverse ways,” he added.

New executives were elected at the AGM, with Prof Daniel Ankrah of the Department of Agricultural Extension at the University of Ghana elected as President. Mr Frederick Safo Appiah was elected Vice President, Ms Victoria Cornelia Quaynor as Secretary, and Ms Ernestina Oye Fianko as Treasurer.

Other executives include Mr Gideon Gyamfi Appawu as Financial Secretary, Mr George Offei Senior as Organiser, and Mr Francis Owusu Hansen as Public Relations Officer.

The newly elected executives will officially assume office in May 2026 to serve a four-year term.

In his acceptance speech, Prof Ankrah thanked members for the confidence reposed in him and assured them of an open-door leadership style to move the association forward.

Dr Joel Sonne, immediate past President of BOSA, in a solidarity message, urged members to build on the foundation laid to reconnect, share memories, and explore ways of supporting the school.

“Let us continue to support our school through mentorship, networking, and new projects, ensuring our legacy shines as emphasised in the school’s anthem: ‘Arise and Shine,’” he said.
