AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine celebrates women with EmpowerHer conference and awards night

Obuasi (Ash), March 12, GNA – AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine marked the 2026 International Women’s Day with the ‘EmpowerHer’ conference for employees, followed by a dinner and awards night in Obuasi, Ashanti Region. 

The events recognized women’s contributions in the workplace and promoted gender inclusion across the mine’s operations and host communities. 

The conference brought together female employees and leaders from across departments to share experiences, discuss challenges, and explore strategies to strengthen women’s leadership in the mining industry. It provided a platform for mentorship, dialogue, and inspiration, emphasizing opportunities for women to grow, lead, and thrive in traditionally male-dominated sectors. 

The dinner and awards night at the AGA School Park honoured women and allies for achievements in education, entrepreneurship, professional excellence, and community service. Employees, community leaders, partners, and stakeholders attended. 

Samuel Boakye Pobee, Managing Director of AGA Obuasi Mine, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to gender equity and inclusive growth, stressing that both men and women deserve equal opportunities to excel. 

Awards were presented to 28 outstanding individuals across nine categories, including female employees, women-led businesses, students, community leaders, and public service professionals, highlighting women’s achievements and the importance of investing in their potential. 

The celebration reflects AGA Obuasi Mine’s ongoing commitment to diversity, inclusion, and women’s advancement in mining and community development, while inspiring the next generation of women to pursue leadership and professional excellence.
