Akatsi (VR), March 22, GNA – The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Akatsi South Municipality, has announced a special registration exercise to expand access to healthcare services for residents.

The exercise, scheduled to take place across selected communities, forms part of efforts to bring NHIS services closer to the grassroots and improve enrolment and renewal rates within the municipality.

The released schedule by the Scheme, showed that the registration would commence on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Atiglime, followed by Ave-Havi on Wednesday, March 25, and Xavi on Thursday, March 26.

The team would continue to Ahlipedo/Asafotsi on Friday, March 27, before moving to Wute on Monday, March 30, and ending the exercise at Atidzive on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Registration activities would run daily from 0800 hours to 1630 hours, the Management said.

Mr Francis Bedzo, the Scheme Manager, indicated to the Ghana News Agency that the outreach programme was designed to reduce barriers such as distance and cost, which often hinder residents from accessing NHIS offices.

He said the one-week exercise was part of their broader strategy to achieve universal health coverage by bringing everyone on board.

Mr Bedzo further revealed that the exercise would be partnered with Social Welfare and Community Development together with some individuals and Assembly members and organisations to register and renew membership for the less privileged and the vulnerable.

Residents have been encouraged to take advantage of the free exercise to register, renew expired memberships, and update their personal information to ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare services.

The NHIS remained a key pillar in Ghana’s healthcare delivery system, providing financial protection and improving access to quality healthcare for citizens.

Over 5000 people are expected to benefit from the offer.
