US-based couple supports Street Academy

Accra, Feb.1, GNA – Street Academy has received stationery and clothing from a United States-based couple to support the education and welfare of street children.

The items were donated by Bishop David Lawe and Lady Pastor Michele Lawe of The City of Grace Church in Brooklyn, New York.

The donation, according to the donors, was to support the Academy’s operations and promote the education and personal development of the children.

The couple presented items including T-shirts, trousers, vests, socks, body fresheners, deodorants and tubes, as well as books, pens and pencils.

The children received the items with excitement and expressed appreciation for the support.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Bishop Lawe said the donation was inspired by the biblical passage: “I was hungry and you fed me… I needed clothes, you clothed me” in Matthew 25:35-36.

He said demonstrating love, especially to underprivileged children, should go beyond words to practical actions that sustained life.

“We believe these little things are going to put them on the path of love that people care and love them. These are things they can remember. The under shirt and under wear will help them to grow,” Bishop Lawe said.

Lady Pastor Lawe told the GNA that they were committed to sustaining the support and collaboration, saying they loved the children and had come to share love because Jesus is love.

Mr Ataa Lartey, Founder and Executive Director of Street Academy, commended the donors and said the items would support efforts to keep the Academy functional.

“They were here last year, and they promised to come every year to the aid of the children. About a week ago they told me they were coming and yesterday they came.

“So, this morning, they are here. God bless them so that they can go and gather more resources and bring them to the children,” he said.
