Tamale, Feb 20, GNA – The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) has issued a directive to traders operating in unauthorized locations within the metropolis to vacate such areas on or before Monday, February 23, 2026, or face enforcement action.
The directive forms part of the Assembly’s mandate to ensure orderly, safe and hygienic trading environments across the metropolis.
A press statement signed by Mr Amadu Mustapha Zakari, Public Relations Officer of the Assembly, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale, said it had come to the attention of the Assembly that some traders had set up stalls and were conducting business at unauthorized locations.
These areas, the statement noted, include pedestrian walkways, layby and spaces under the overpass, among others.
According to the Assembly, the activities of traders at such locations were obstructing both pedestrian and vehicular movement, thereby creating health and safety hazards within the metropolis.
“In line with our mandate to ensure orderly and safe trading environments, the Assembly hereby directs all traders occupying unauthorized sites, including pedestrian walkways, layby and under the overpass among others, to vacate such locations on or before Monday, 23rd February 2026,” the statement indicated.
It warned that failure to comply with the directive would leave the Assembly with no option than to enforce the law and remove structures or goods from the unauthorized areas.
The Assembly encouraged affected traders to relocate to designated market centres where they would be provided with the necessary guidance and support to continue their businesses safely and legally.
It reaffirmed its commitment to promoting harmonious, organized and safe commercial activities within the metropolis and appealed to the traders to cooperate fully with the directive to ensure compliance.
The statement advised traders seeking further clarification to contact the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly Office during official working hours.
