Sunyani, (Bono), Feb. 05, GNA – The Sunyani Traditional Council says it has peacefully resolved the chieftaincy dispute and accordingly re-instated Nana Akosua Dua Asor Sika Brayie II the Paramount Queenmother of the Sunyani Traditional Area.

The council lauded the intervention of Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, for the amicable resolution of the dispute.

Addressing a new conference in Sunyani, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng II, the Akwamuhene (sub-chief) and the Acting President of the Sunyani Traditional Council said it had also re-instated the four divisional queens who were suspended together with the paramount queen mother.

The Queenmother and Odeefour Ogyemansan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief of Sunyani Traditional Area, had been engaging in legal disputes over the rightful occupant of the Sunyani Paramount stool for barely a year now.

It followed the purported enstoolment of Odeefour Korkor II, following the death of the late paramount chief Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II in 2022 which rendered the stool vacant.

The dispute created division among the sub-chiefs and sub-queens of the traditional area, slowing down development efforts in the area.

Flanked by some sub-chiefs and sub-queens and attended by Nana Brayie II, the Acting President said the amicable resolution of the dispute followed a meeting between the Chieftaincy Minister, the paramount queen mother and the paramount chief as well as some sub-chiefs held Monday, February 2, 2026.

Nana Sarbeng said: “We have agreed that the entire Boahen Korkor Royal Family, occupants of the Sunyani Traditional Stool, recognize Odeefour Korkor II and Nana Brayie II as the Paramount Chief and Paramount Queen Mother of the Sunyani Traditional Area respectively.

“We also settled that all pending court cases should be discontinued in the interest of peace and unity.”

He called on the feuding factions to embrace the resolution, unite and rally together for the purpose of development.

Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, who was also at the event, praised the amicable resolution of the dispute and commended the chiefs and people of the area for their cooperation.

He said with the resolution of the dispute, stakeholders could come together and support the development process of Sunyani and the Bono Region by extension.
