Amomaso, (Bono), Feb. 9, GNA-Residents of Amomaso, a farming community in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region has called for expeditious investigations to ascertain the cause of the deaths of large numbers of fowls in the area.
During a visit to the community, Mr Richard Agyei, the manager of the owner of the Nhyira Farms confirmed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that more than 5,000 birds, including some chicks had died.
He could not immediately give reasons for the deaths; however, added that management of the poultry farm was putting in place to control the deaths.
Nana Yeboah Asuama, the Owner of the Nhyira Farms, and also the Nkosuohene (sub-chief) of Amomaso attributed the death of the birds to inadequate feeding.
He said the farms had engaged personnel of the District Environmental Health Department and called on the residents to remain calm, saying the situation was under control.
“Some of these incidents sometimes happen in our business operations,” Nana Asuama stated, and urged the residents to remain calm.
Nonetheless, residents around the farm who spoke to the GNA said they could not withstand the odour that emanated from the farm day in and day out and called for investigations.
Madam Gifty Oteng, a resident, said: “The stench is disruptive and too much to bear,” saying that she suspected that the poultry farm had been infested and appealed for the intervention of the Veterinary Services Department.
