Nkwanta (O/R), Feb. 10, GNA – Nana Akungnaba Monfankye Peace I, the Queenmother of Asanyo in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, has urged graduating seamstress apprentices to make effective use of the skills they have acquired.
She cautioned them against abandoning their profession in search of uncertain opportunities elsewhere.
The Queenmother, who is herself a seamstress, gave the advice at the graduation ceremony of some of her apprentices who had successfully completed a three-year training programme in dressmaking and fashion design.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, she observed that it had become common for some trained apprentices to leave their communities for urban centres in search of greener pastures, only to end up working in chop bars and engaging in other menial jobs instead of establishing themselves as independent professionals.

She therefore urged the graduates to cherish the opportunity they had been given and ensure that their training did not go to waste.
Nana Akungnaba Monfankye Peace I also encouraged them to be disciplined, hardworking and innovative, stressing that self-employment through vocational skills remained a reliable pathway to economic independence and community development.
Some of the graduates expressed gratitude to their trainers for equipping them with skills to become independent members of society and pledged to put their training to good use.
