Jachie-Pramso (Ash), Feb. 09, GNA – Professor Joseph Oteng Agyei, Board Chairman of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has stressed the need for active involvement of parents in building the character of children.
He said though education remained a powerful stool for shaping individuals and transforming communities, good character was important in building better socieities.
Prof Oteng Agyei was speaking at the 55th anniversary celebration of the Jachie-Pramso Senior High School, in the Bosomtwe district.
He said no country could thrive without investment in human capital and urged all stakeholders to work towards contributing to the total and holistic development of Ghanaian children.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosomtwe, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Bosomtwe District became a hub for education in Ashanti region.
He said with the support of stakeholders, schools in Bosomtwe would be upgraded and supported to create a country of job providers.
Dr. Osei Adutwum, who was the former Minister of Education, said a legacy had been made in Science Technical Engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in the district.
He said STEM had now become a household name in the district, adding that, now more students were enrolling in STEM education, which would help the country to develop in future.
The anniversary was under the theme Empowering the Youth for the Future; the Role of Stakeholders.
Dr Adutwum pointed out that the district now had about 13 senior high schools in the country.
He urged teachers to work hard, be committed and focus in the teaching and training of students for the school to become a great institution.
They must create students that possessed not only knowledge but character and integrity.
He advised students to strive to improve themselves to catch-up with other schools.
They must also develop a mindset not to be intimidated.
Mr. Benjamin Kye Ampadu, Headmaster of the school, said the school had made tremendous achievements in WASSCE performances, public speaking competition and sports.
He said management was poised to create an enabling environment through stakeholders for academic excellence and quality inclusive learning environment for students.
He called on stakeholders to help improve health and sanitation, water supply, infrastructure, sports and other academic challenges in the school.
Mr. George Ernest Asare, Chairman of the Old Students Association pledged their commitment to take the School to a level worth clamoring for.
He said the old students would soon provide a state – of – the art computer laboratory for the school to improve quality of academic work.
Students who had performed outstandingly in the various academic disciplines received deserving awards for their performance.
Others were also rewarded for being well-behaved.
Some stakeholders and past students were also honored for their contributions to building the school.
