Accra, Feb. 14, GNA – The National Investment Bank (NIB) PLC has donated GH¢100,000 to the Ghana Sports Fund, becoming the first institution to contribute since the Fund became operational.

Established under Act 1159 and passed by Parliament in December 2025, the Ghana Sports Fund is a legally backed financing mechanism aimed at ending years of chronic underfunding within the sports sector.

Madam Esther Agyemang Prempeh, the Ag. Chief Client and Corporate Communications Officer of NIB, said the gesture reflects the Bank’s commitment to supporting national development beyond its core financial mandate.

“This donation forms part of our corporate social responsibility. At NIB, we believe strongly in the development of sports and the benefits it brings to the youth and the country as a whole.

“We are privileged to be associated with the Ghana Sports Fund, and we believe this contribution will go a long way toward promoting sports development in Ghana,” she said.

Dr. David Kofi Wuaku, Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, expressed gratitude to NIB, describing the support as historic, and expressed optimism that the donation would encourage more institutions to contribute.

“We want to thank NIB for becoming the first institution to donate to the Sports Fund. I believe this will open more doors and pave the way for many others to follow,” he said, emphasising that adequate financing is essential for sports development nationwide.

Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, also commended NIB for taking what he termed a bold and exemplary step.

He noted that limited funding remained one of the major challenges facing sports development in the country and assured the public that all contributions to the Fund would be managed transparently and accounted for.
