Minister inaugurates Bono East Regional sports committee

Techiman (Bono East) Feb. 9, GNA – Mr Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister has inaugurated a seven-member sports committee to oversee the holistic development of sports in the region. 
 
The committee is also tasked to manage and initiate sporting programmes to unearth and build on sporting talents and also promote tourism in the region. 
 
Speaking at a short ceremony at Techiman, Mr Antwi explained that the government was dedicated to sports development, saying sports could help tackle about 32 percent of the nation’s unemployment situation. 
 
He said the government had put in place plans to revamp the various national teams and support sports academies for talent scouting and searching and urged the committee to be innovative in resource mobilization and focus much on developing grassroots sports. 
 
Mr Antwi highlighted the importance of sports for social cohesion and a vehicle for the promotion of good health. 
 
Dr Gabribah Dominic Mensah, the Chairman for the Committee, pledged the members commitment to duty, assuring that the committee would also ensure a conducive and friendly environment for People with Disabilities to participate in sporting activities. 
 
He said the committee would also focus on maintaining and improving sports infrastructure in the region. 
 
Mr Foster Kwame Opoku Boakye, the Bono East Regional Director for the National Sports Authority, welcomed the inauguration of the committee, saying it would foster smooth running of the sporting activities.
