Dambai (O/R), Feb. 20, GNA – The Assembly members in Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region are up in arms over their exclusion from projects initiated by the Municipal Assembly in their respective Electoral Areas.
They claimed the Assembly was pushing ahead with projects without consulting them, which undermines their role as elected representatives.
Mr Charles Awuranyi, the Assemblyman at Dambai Central, alleged he was sidelined during an astroturf project at the Dambai Lapaz Park and the revamped kindergarten block at the Dambai Wankayaw community.
Mr Emmanuel Atali, the Dambai Lakeside Assembly member, also claimed he was excluded from various projects, like the pavement blocks at the lorry station and the 0.28m (200kg) tarred road from Saturday junction to the Yam market.
At the civic engagement on the rule of law and fight against corruption organised by The National Commission for Civic Education, the Assembly members demanded transparency and inclusiveness, saying their exclusion hampered project effectiveness and accountability in these areas.
Mr Ernest Adarkwa Yiadom, the Municipal Planning Officer, however, refuted the allegations, stating that the assembly always informed chiefs and other opinion leaders in the locality anytime they were about to initiate new projects.
