GRIDCo: Parts of Volta, Oti to go off February 12

By Ewoenam Kpodo

Ho, Feb 10, GNA – The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced that parts of the Volta and Oti Regions will experience an interruption in power supply on Thursday, February 12, as part of measures to improve electricity reliability in the two regions.

The planned outage, scheduled at the Asiekpe Substation from 1000 hours to 1600 hours, will enable engineers to undertake a load redistribution exercise.

The exercise is expected to affect consumers in Ho, Asiekpe, Sogakope, Kpeve, Kpando, Kadjebi and surrounding communities during the period.

A press statement issued by GRIDCo’s Corporate Communications Section on Tuesday, February 10, said the company, together with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), regret the inconvenience the outage may cause and expressed appreciation to the public for their understanding and cooperation.

It said the two power utilities, under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, were working to improve electricity supply in the regions and had put in place measures to ensure the exercise was completed within the planned timeframe to minimise discomfort to consumers.

The Ministry, the statement said, was aware of the long-standing challenges associated with power supply in the Volta and Oti regions, which historically have not been served by a dedicated transmission line. While a long-term project to construct such a line is being pursued, interim interventions—including the load redistribution exercise—are being implemented to provide immediate relief.

“The load redistribution exercise is expected to significantly enhance the reliability and stability of electricity supply to consumers in the Volta and Oti regions,” the statement added.
