Tema, Feb. 03, GNA — African Star Fisheries Company Limited, and Laif Fisheries Company Limited have donated 15 sets of computers to Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Member of Parliament for the Tema East Constituency, to support his Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education agenda.
The donation forms part of the companies’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at promoting technology education and community development within areas where it operates.
Mr Wang Guoliang, Chairman of African Star Company Limited, presenting the computers, said the gesture was intended to enhance the teaching and learning of ICT, which he described as critical to national development.
Mr Wang noted that the company had over the years supported initiatives in education, sanitation, and the marine sector, stressing that education remained a key pillar for preparing young people for the future.
“Education must be consistently championed if we are to equip the next generation with the skills needed for development,” he said.
Mr Richster Nii Armah Amarfio, Country Director of Laif Fisheries Company Limited, highlighted the companies’ longstanding commitment to education in the constituency, reiterating that his outfit had consistently invested in initiatives to ensure equal access to quality education, regardless of learners’ financial background
Mr Amarfio commended the MP’s “Back to School” programme, describing it as one of the most impactful educational initiatives in Tema East, and assured him of the company’s continued support in the coming years.
Receiving the computers, Mr Odamtten expressed gratitude to African Star Laif Fisheries Company Limited for its sustained support to the constituency, describing the donation as timely and relevant.
He said the ICT tools would significantly enhance learners’ technological skills and improve teaching and learning outcomes in beneficiary schools, adding that the computers would be presented to St Peter’s Basic School, which had been appealing for ICT equipment to support its curriculum.
The MP also commended the company for organising an annual football competition, which he said had positively impacted staff welfare, teamwork, and community relations.
He noted that such initiatives not only promoted healthy lifestyles but also strengthened the bond between the company and the surrounding communities.
